Maybe you’ve found yourself questioning where your passions really lie. You might be working at a job that you like but don’t love. Now, you’re wondering if you could find a career that truly aligns with your sense of purpose — if only you knew what that was!
Or maybe you’re tired of spending your weekends binge-watching TV shows and going out to eat. While it’s okay to unwind and relax when you have downtime, you might be seeking out activities that will bring you a deeper feeling of fulfillment.
Right now, you may feel a bit lost and directionless. But if you’re proactive and open-minded, you can connect with your passions. Here are a few ideas to help you get started on this exciting journey!
Accompany a Friend to an Activity
Have any of your friends mentioned hobbies that you might be interested in, yet you’ve always been nervous to try alone? Ask if you can tag along with them sometime! Whether your friend is a member of a rock climbing gym, a knitting group, or a meditation workshop, it never hurts to see if they’d like a plus-one.
Your friend will likely be flattered and appreciate your interest! Plus, you’ll be able to ask questions about the activity and get some tips.
Take a Local Class
Perhaps you’ve been finished with high school or college for a while now. But that doesn’t mean you have to stop learning! In fact, you might find that you’re a more productive and attentive student in adulthood than you were as a teenager. Consider taking a class with a local community college, or look into nonprofits and museums in your area that offer classes and workshops.
You would be amazed by the wide selection of classes you can take as an adult. As a bonus, you won’t have to worry about grades this time around! You’ll be free to learn about topics and master skills based on your interests.
Look Up Online Tutorials
What if you’re interested in learning new skills, but you don’t have anywhere in your area where you could take classes? Today, you can find online tutorials on almost any topic under the sun. Additionally, many of these courses are free! You can learn from the comfort of your home, on your own time.
Try Community Volunteering
Volunteering is a fantastic way to make new friends, learn more about the problems that people in your community face, and pick up some new skills along the way. You can find volunteer opportunities that align with almost any interest.
For instance, if you love animals, consider walking dogs at a shelter. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, find out if your neighborhood has a clean-up group. You can keep your volunteer commitments to once or twice per week to see if a group is a good fit for you.
Attend a Meetup for a Hobby Group
If you live near a metro area, you’ll have no trouble finding meet up groups and social get-togethers for a wide range of hobbies. Many of these groups are very welcoming to new people. You’ll automatically be able to connect with people who can show you the ropes! Plus, there’s no limit on the number of hobby groups you can join. You can test out as many as you like and try different activities to see what sparks your interest!
